Modified molecule. A Cys7–Cys23 disulfide forms the 17-residue ring required for activity.

Backbone carries modifications, so computed backbone mass is not comparable to the reported mass of the complete molecule.

No experimental structure of this peptide is deposited in the PDB. Nothing is rendered here — a predicted fold would not be a structure, and this site does not draw one.

Plasma Atrial Natriuretic Peptide Concentrations and Associated Factors in Captive Dolphins: Potential Implications for Cardiovascular Assessment — Animals : an open access journal from MDPI 2026

This exploratory study evaluated plasma atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) concentrations in four species of captive cetaceans and their associations with physiological and environmental factors, including husbandry conditions, diet, and management practices. Twenty-six individuals were voluntarily sampled, and blood samples were analyzed using a human-based chemiluminescent immunoassay. Transthoracic echocardiography was also attempted in several individuals but was technically challenging due to interference from the lung tissue and the sternum. The mean plasma ANP concentration in clinically healthy young animals was 44.12 ± 14.62 pg/mL, with no significant differences observed according to age, sex, species, or the presence of mild chronic disease. ANP was detectable across all species using human reagents. In addition, brain natriuretic peptide (BNP), a commonly used cardiac biomarker…

Carboxy-terminal 24-amino-acid peptide of integral membrane protein 2A is produced in the heart and stimulates atrial natriuretic peptide release — Scientific reports 2026

Humoral factors regulating cardiac myocytes have not yet been fully elucidated. Using mass spectrometry, we analyzed peptides released from primary neonatal rat cardiac fibroblasts to identify a 24-amino-acid peptide with an intramolecular disulfide bond. It is derived from the C-terminal end of integral membrane protein 2A (ITM2A), a single-pass type II membrane protein; the peptide sequence is identical between humans and rodents and N-terminally flanked by conserved dibasic residues KR. The ITM2A peptide stimulated secretion of atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP), the predominant hormone produced by cardiac myocytes, in a Langendorff rat heart perfusion system as well as a primary culture of neonatal rat ventricular myocytes. These ANP secretion changes were not accompanied by an alteration in the beating rate, a key determinant of ANP secretion. In a mouse cardiac infarction model, both…
