Polymyxin B
Research reference only. The observations below are recorded in the cited literature. Nothing here is advice or a recommendation, and no dosing information is published on this site.
Sequence
Primary structure not characterised in the public records this index draws on. Nothing is shown rather than something invented.
A non-ribosomal cyclic lipopeptide containing several diaminobutyric acid residues.

Mechanism
Binds lipid A in the Gram-negative outer membrane and disrupts it.
Reported targets: lipopolysaccharide
Experimental structure
No experimental structure of this peptide is deposited in the PDB. Nothing is rendered here — a predicted fold would not be a structure, and this site does not draw one.
Reported effects
Each row is an outcome described in the literature indexed for this peptide. Reported in the cited work — not a claim, not a recommendation.

The intrinsic potential of IgY-polymyxin B nanocombinations for combating colistin-resistant Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium isolated from ready-to-cook chicken — Poultry science 2026
Egg yolk immunoglobulin Y (IgY) derived from avian sources, such as chickens, has attracted interest due to its low cost and rapid production. This study aimed to fabricate chitosan nanoparticles conjugated with IgY antibodies and polymyxin B as novel antibacterial nanocombinations to fight multi-resistant Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium (Salmonella Typhimurium) isolated from poultry. Chicken IgY was purified from egg yolk via caprylic acid precipitation and gel filtration. The developed polymyxin B-loaded nanocombinations, enhanced by IgY-polymyxin B-based NPs (IgY-Poly/ChNPs and IgY-coated-Poly/ChNPs), were designed to overcome the resistance limitations of polymyxin B. In this system, polymyxin B serves as the primary bactericidal agent, while the chitosan nanoparticle acts as a biocompatible carrier matrix, and the IgY coating serves as a functional shell to enhance stability…
